Hospitals and Healthcare - Kathmandu, NEPAL
Water in Kathmandu is not safe, and may be cause for water
borne diseases. It is advised that direct consumption of water from
faucets, salads and ice be not done. Filter water or boiled water is
advised.
Clinics. A hygienic and efficient place to receive medical attention is
the Shenchen Clinic, Boudhanath. They have some very potent Tibetan
medicine that is effective in the treatment of food poisoning Clinic
Travel Medicine Center caters to western travelers and the ex-pat
community. It is one of the few places one can get health care at par with
western countries in Kathmandu. Located centrally in Lazimpat, across from
the British embassy, it is well appointed, but at $50 just to be seen by a
Doctor is rather overpriced.
Hospitals Bir Hospital in Kathmandu is home to one of the few ENT
departments in the country, but should otherwise be avoided. It is a
government hospital and is run down and chaotic at best. Patan Hospital is
the easily the best public hospital in Nepal. It also has a private
clinic.
